VIDEO CONTEST - Palliative and Hospice Care in 90 Seconds


The Ruth Foundation had a successful Pitch Perfect Video Contest last October 30, 2021, Saturday. The winners were announced during the closing ceremonies of the National Hospice and Palliative Awareness Month.

Contest Mechanics

A - Deadline for Submission

Deadline for submission is on or before October 25, 2021, Monday, 11:59 pm.

B - Eligibility

Category A: Palliative Care Providers

Open to all Hospice and Palliative Care Providers (doctors, nurses, therapists, social workers, etc.) practicing and rendering Palliative Care services in the Philippines.

Category B: Palliative Care RECIPIENTS

Open to patients and/or families of patients who have received or are currently receiving Hospice and Palliative Care services from providers in the Philippines.

C - Schedule

October 25, 2021 - Deadline for Submission
October 27, 2021 - Selection and initial judging of entries
October 29, 2021 - Posting of shortlisted entries via Facebook
October 29, 2021 - Final judging of entries
October 30, 2021 - Announcement of Winner via Zoom live event.

D - Entry Format

WHAT SHOULD BE SUBMITTED?

CATEGORY A

Each contestant must submit a recorded video of himself/herself delivering an “elevator or sales pitch” answering the following questions only:

  1. What is Hospice and Palliative Care?

  2. Why is it important or why do we need it?

CATEGORY B

Each contestant must submit a recorded video of himself/herself delivering a TESTIMONY answering the following questions only:

  1. What is Hospice and Palliative Care? Para sa akin/amin, ano ang Hospice at Palliative Care?

  2. or Why is it important or why do patients/families like ours need it? Bakit mahalaga ang Hospice at Palliative Care? Bakit ito kailangan ng mga pasyente/pamilyang katulad ko/namin?

FORMATS

- Video length should not be less than 60 seconds and not more than 90 seconds long.
- Videos must be in Landscape orientation.
- Accepted video formats are . MP4, .MOV, .WMV, .AVI, .MKV only
- Maximum file size is 1GB.
- Use the Highest Resolution of your recording device. 1920 x 1080 max.

E - Video Guidelines

1. Use Plenty of Light. Choose a place to record that gives sufficient light. Make sure that the light is not behind you, which may create glare or may cast a shadow.

2. Use a Clean Background. Consider having a plain wall behind you. Make sure that there is minimal to no movement behind you.

3. Prioritize Crisp, Clear Audio.

4. Avoid Shaky Footage. Prop up your recording device on a steady base.

5. Stand (or Sit) in the Middle of the Video Frame. Make sure that you are in the frame fully and the top of your head is in the shot.

6. Use Your Phone the Right Way. All videos should be taken with a landscape orientation.

F - Rules

1. Each contestant can only submit 1 (one) entry.

2. Each video must NOT BE MORE THAN 90 SECONDS long and not less than 60 seconds.

3. The entire pitch must be delivered in
a. English only (for Category A)
b. English or Filipino (for Category B)

4. Contestants may use items/tangible objects to enhance their presentation. However, the following are not allowed:

  1. Presentation slides (eg, Powerpoint, Keynote, Google slides, etc.)

  2. Add-on Videos edited on to the actual video (whether original or adapted)

  3. Photos

  4. Background music

  5. Video Filters

4. Contestants may use a visual background of their choice (actual or virtual)

5. Aside from the contestant, NO other person must be in the video.

6. All entries are only accepted via EMAIL (hope@ruth.ph)

7. The contestant MUST send in the video transcript with the recorded video. Include your full name, profession, category, organization and contact info with this file. Kindly save this transcript in the file format as .doc, .docx, .rtf or .txt.

8. The entrant name must be the name of the person on the video. This will also be the name used when announcing winners and awarding prizes. Names cannot be changed after the submitting process, so please ensure the correct name is used when submitting works.

G - Steps for Submission

1. Prepare the file. Please refer to the formatting of video file name for entry:
“Category Letter - your Name”
Example: Category A - Juan Dela Cruz.mp4

2. Attached the file via email or upload via Cloud Storage (Google Drive, One Drive, Drop Box)

3. Aside from the video the contestant must submit the following:
- Video Transcript (via .doc, .docx, rtf, or .txt)
- Video link (if uploaded via Cloud Storage)
- Full Name
- Contact Number
- Category
- Profession
- Organization (if Category A)

4. Send the video to hope@ruth.ph
Please use the subject: PITCH PERFECT + Name of Participant
Example: PITCH PERFECT - Juan Dela Cruz

5. Once submitted, please expect an email confirmation within 24-48 hours.

H - Criteria for Judging

***For audience impact, all selected entries will be posted on The Ruth Foundation’s Facebook page. Corresponding points will be awarded to each entry based on the number of “likes” each video will receive from October 25 to October 29, 2021 only.

I - Prizes for each Category

Notes

  1. By joining the contest, the contestant agrees that The Ruth Foundation for Palliative and Hospice Care Inc.(TRF) may air and/or play all the submitted videos on its social media, communication resources and other platforms for the sole purpose of promoting Hospice and Palliative Care.

  2. All submitted entries will be the property of TRF. The contestant will be duly acknowledged as the creator of his/her respective video. For videos in which a patient, client, provider or other person is recognizable, the subjects included in the video must provide clear, informed verbal consent for the video to be taken and to be posted publicly on social media. Without this consent, please do not include them in your video. Offering respect and privacy to all subjects is of the utmost importance. We do not encourage or condone, and will not consider videos that violate a subject’s right to privacy.

  3. Entrants grant The Ruth Foundation the right to reproduce the videos of entries for promotional purposes.

  4. Entries which do not follow the entry format and video guidelines, or which the jury consider inappropriate, or which contravene the rights of others will be disqualified from the competition. The Ruth Foundation reserves the right to disqualify entries based on these conditions even after notification has been made that they are accepted and selected/shortlisted. When doubts about whether an entry conflicts with the copyrights of others arise after the videos are posted and/or winners are announced and awarded, the producer of the controversial entry and the corresponding third person are responsible for solving the problem. The Ruth Foundation takes no responsibility in such matters.
