Training & Advocacy

Part of our advocacy encourages each one of us to improve quality of life for those around us. Through our Leadership of HOPE Education Program, we empower everyone in the community to become equipped in reaching out to their neighbors living with chronic illnesses. We offer introductory talks, certification courses, and case-based learning.

Compassionate Communities Campaign

Communities recognize care for one another at times of health crisis, and personal loss is not simply a task solely for health and social services but is everyone’s responsibility.
— (Kellehear, A. 2012)

The Ruth Foundation is localizing this global movement for Filipino families through its Compassionate Communities Campaign. TRF provides structured training and support to empower communities to take action:

  • Engage: Awareness talks and activities that spark compassion and mobilize local leaders.

  • Train: Practical workshops and online modules covering palliative care basics, compassionate communication, and caregiving skills like bedmaking, feeding tube use, and patient transfers.

  • Certify & Support: Communities can enroll in TRF’s certification program, gain recognition through charters or ordinances, and receive long-term mentoring and situational assessments.

  • Empower: By equipping coordinators and volunteers, TRF ensures communities are sustained with ongoing support, recognition, and empowerment.

Through this model, TRF is not only teaching skills but also nurturing a culture where compassion becomes a shared value—turning neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and institutions into networks of care.

End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC)

This is a certification course for healthcare professionals. It is designed to improve confidence, critical judgment, and competence in managing patients with life-limiting diseases and their families through mastery of the ‘Palliative Care Approach.’

This 2-day training is regularly offered by the foundation in partnership with hospitals, schools, and other medical institutions. Occasionally, this is partnered by a specialization in Pediatrics, Geriatrics, or Critical Care. ELNEC is recognized internationally, referencing the original curriculum by City of Hope and American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
