The recently concluded 4th International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) Conference 2025 held for the first time in Southeast Asia and proudly hosted in the Philippines, was a landmark gathering of compassion, innovation, and global solidarity. With 400 delegates from 47 countries, the event became a powerful testament to what we can achieve when united for children and families facing life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.
Stepping Beyond Comfort Zones
One of the most moving reflections came from Prof. Julia Downing. She heartwarmingly recalled her first trip to help treat underprivileged kids in Africa shared: “I got on that plane when I went to Uganda all those years ago. And boy, that was a challenge and I cried all the way there. If I hadn’t done that, I wouldn’t be here now. If I hadn’t stepped out of my comfort zone, I wouldn’t be here right now. So let’s all challenge those limits. Let’s all challenge those things that have been stopping us from moving forward.”
This call to courage set the tone for the conference, reminding participants that progress in children’s palliative care requires boldness, resilience, and a willingness to embrace change.
Innovation and Collaboration
The conference highlighted the milestones in children’s palliative care for the past two decades since ICPCN’s inception. While also emphasizing the importance of embracing technology, innovative service models, stronger data, research, and metrics to better serve children in palliative care. Delegates engaged in meaningful conversations on grief, therapeutic practices, and the evolving landscape of pediatric palliative care.
The energy in the halls was palpable as delegates celebrated progress while contributing fresh ideas to strengthen palliative care services worldwide.
A Global Voice for Children
From Africa to Asia, Europe to the Americas, participants came together with passion and purpose. The conference was not only about knowledge-sharing but also about building bridges of compassion. It offered deep insights and new approaches, leaving attendees enriched, connected, and committed to the same goal–no child suffers alone.
Gratitude and Solidarity
In the gentle weaving of stories, tears, and triumphs, the ICPCN Conference 2025 became more than a gathering—it became a chorus of hope. Voices from 47 countries rose together, carrying the dreams of children and families who deserve comfort, dignity, and love. Each conversation was a seed, each embrace a promise, each idea a light breaking through the shadows of suffering. And as we parted, we carried with us not just knowledge, but a renewed vow: to challenge our limits, to walk hand in hand across borders, and to build a world where no child suffers alone.
We, The Ruth Foundation, ICPCN Conference 2025’s official country host, along with our many partners, express heartfelt gratitude to everyone for being part of this milestone. Together with the global community, we created a space of collaboration, compassion, and hope—continuing the mission to build a future where every child with a debilitating illness is met with utmost care and dignity.
